description: hailing from the streets of huntington beach, ca. comes a band that brings it all back. duress' sound is best described as dirty street rock with unmistakable power and melodic flair. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- bio: duress bio they say timing is everything, and for southern california rock band duress, it seems the time is definitely now. formed in early 2004, the band has quickly gained a strong following playing the dingy rock clubs in and around los angeles and orange county. comprised of singer/guitarist chad anthony, drummer marco forcone, guitarist cody requejo, and bassist mike doyle, duress is the result of friendship, hard work, and a determination for honest pure rock fury. the origins of the band go back to the summer of 2002 when chad quit playing guitar for (hed) p.e. (jive) after a successful tour supporting linkin park. armed with a deep desire to perform his own style of music, small acoustic performances showcasing chads personal writing and singing style soon followed. at the same time, chad also took on guitar duties in a project called humanlab (atlantic) formed by marco. although that group disbanded after only a short time, the musical bond between the two was undeniable; chad and marco soon formed duress with the intention of making the rock band they describe as the band we always wanted. recruiting guitarist cody and bassist mike, two local musicians who were easily the driving forces behind their respective bands, quickly led to a 5 song demo, garnering them an instant buzz. the excitement and expectations from those surrounding the new band (friends, family, local bands, clubs, lawyers, managers, etc.) forced the group into a self-imposed seclusion of sorts. we knew we had something special simply based on the fact that were all really good friends& and we didnt want to rush or exploit it says chad. the vibe we have together is incredible and we all recognized the potential. the sound we produced by jamming together with each others style& it just blew my mind. the band took refuge in their rehearsal space for close to a year and nurtured their sound which has been described as if tom petty were raised on nirvana. in late 2005 they started recording themselves and producing what would become their debut album the time is now. we were determined to do our own thing and do as much as we could by ourselves& and we ended up making our own record! explains marco. finished in summer 2006, the ten songs explode with the energy of a band coming to terms with its own potential. the lyrics explore themes of life and longing alongside personal reflection that clearly resonate with their growing followers. the bands recent live shows, including a sold out record release party at the viper room in hollywood, california are clear evidence that this is a band very serious about their rock music. the timing just seems right for us states chad; were getting such a positive response from the shows and the record. it feels like were ready to take it to the next level whatever that is. indeed, judging by the reactions of fans and peers alike, the band is taking it to the next level already. still, the band remains cautiously optimistic amid their growing popularity and opportunities that lie ahead. the main thing with our band is that were friends and we know that whatever happens now is icing on the cake. the hardest part is over& we found each other (duress, 2007). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- press release: for immediate release nov. 1st , 2007 local rock band, duress appearance on klsx-fms should i stay or should i go? a huge success huntington beach based rock band duress recently made a highly successful appearance on the should i stay or should i go? segment during the popular frosty, heidi and frank show on los angeles radio station klsx-fm. should i stay or should i go? is a weekly friday afternoon segment that gives local, unsigned artists an opportunity to showcase their music while the listeners vote on whether the band should stay or go. featuring chad anthony lead vocal/guitar and cody requejo on guitar/vocals, marco forcone on drums and mike doyle on bass, duress was selected to be featured on the show as a result of a letter that anthony sent to the d.j. trio. during the appearance, there was a brief introductory chat with anthony who was on the air via telephone. after the first single, blow was played, host heidi exclaimed to anthony, i wanna unduress for you&i absolutely loved it, while frosty proclaimed, i think weve just heard the best band of the year so far! the reactions from the listeners also agreed. all of the callers unanimously voted that duress was a stay. the show took a few more listener calls after they played the track, knew it all along. once again, all of the reactions were positive. since all the feedback from the callers was a stay, duress was given the rare honor of a clean sweep. at the end of the broadcast, duress was invited by frosty, heidi and frank to perform at klsx-fms birthday bash later this year and anthony eagerly accepted. having your music played throughout southern california for listeners to critique can be extremely intimidating but a band can also be pleasantly surprised. anthony admits, i was nervous and in shock the entire time. i knew it was going well but it just kept getting better and better. as a result of being featured on should i stay or should i go? online traffic to the bands my space page and orders for their debut cd, the time is now has increased tremendously. duress is currently putting the finishing touches to their music video for blow and scheduled to perform at the viper room in hollywood, ca. on nov. 10th with more southland appearances to come. # # #
